Harper Connelly #1
Author: Charlaine Harris
Pages: 320 pgs
Reading Level: Adult
My Stars: 4 stars
The main character in the book is a young girl that after being hit by lighting is able to find dead bodies. She makes a living traveling with her step brother performing assignments. Next adventure takes her to a town where she finds several bodies that were killed and this makes them not welcome. They are treated as freaks.
The relationship between the two, gets kind of awkward at some points. The main character is very vulnerable and her weakness makes it tiresome. The book is written in her POV and this helps to understand somethings better. Her brother besides acting as support, I think distracts you from the story. You keep guessing who's done it to the very end. I am glad to have read this 1st book in the series from Harris, and excited to read the next book.
Synopsis: Harper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she finds dead people. The way Harper sees it, she's providing a service to the dead while bringing some closure to the living-but she's used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech. Traveling with her stepbrother Tolliver as her manager and sometime-bodyguard, she's become an expert at getting in, getting paid, and getting out fast. Because for the living it's always urgent-even if the dead can wait forever.
I go back and forth with liking these books. I think I liked the first and the last ones best.
