Lament Book Review

Lament
The Faerie Queen's Deception
Book of Faerie #1
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Pages: 326 pgs
Reading Level: YA

My Stars: 4 stars

This is another great story by Maggie. This time the story is a bit darker then in Linger. We meet Deirdre and how she meets this handsome Luke at her recital out of thin air. Its just takes off for them both from that point on. She doesn't find it strange she never seen this boy before at her school. They play together in the recital. Now after meeting Luke other things start to happen or at least become more noticeable to Deirdre. You also meet her best friend James who is helplessly in love with her of course. Eventually Deidre learns that she is a Cloverhand and Luke is a Gallowglass. Her life becomes complicated and she will have to choose between her best friend or Luke the boy of her dreams, while fighting with the Faerie Queen.

This book bring you Celtic folklore and music that are incorporated throughout the whole story. Maggie brings so much details you feel like you are dancing along to the music with the faeries. Its beautiful written from beginning to end. I would truly recommend this to any age to read. I cant wait to start reading Ballad.

Synopsis: Sixteen-year-old Deirdre Monaghan is a painfully shy but prodigiously gifted musician. She's about to find out she's also a cloverhand—one who can see faeries. Deirdre finds herself infatuated with a mysterious boy who enters her ordinary suburban life, seemingly out of thin air. Trouble is, the enigmatic and gorgeous Luke turns out to be a gallowglass—a soulless faerie assassin. An equally hunky—and equally dangerous—dark faerie soldier named Aodhan is also stalking Deirdre. Sworn enemies, Luke and Aodhan each have a deadly assignment from the Faerie Queen. Namely, kill Deirdre before her music captures the attention of the Fae and threatens the Queen's sovereignty. Caught in the crossfire with Deirdre is James, her wisecracking but loyal best friend. Deirdre had been wishing her life weren't so dull, but getting trapped in the middle of a centuries-old faerie war isn't exactly what she had in mind . . .

  1. YAY for no real spoilers. Thank you :) I'm only on chapter 3 but my heart is breaking for James. I'm intrigued by the control she had over that four leaf clover and I don't believe for a second that it was just the air conditioner that made it move <3 I love Maggie's lyrical style of writing, it's so beautiful.
