Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.
We meet Lena, she is counting down the days to her procedure and its all she is looking forward too since she could remember. She lost her mother to suicide from Deliria and now lives with her Aunt and Uncle and sister. Then we meet Alex the guard who is "cured". Little by little Alex causes changes in Lena's way of thinking. Then he finally admits to her something very life altering and well, Lena's world that she has always known now has been changed forever. The ending completely Owned me, Now I feel like Lena counting down everyday to the release of the second novel. On February 1st make sure you run out and pick up your copy of Delirium or if you have the Nook or Kindle download it.
I'm excited about meeting Lauren Oliver on Feb 1st when she comes to Houston and visits at Blue Willow bookshop.
I thought this book was good until about 75% through, then it turned into fantastic! I didn't realize I cared so much about the characters until the very end! My reaction was a surprise to me.
