Top Ten Tuesday: 1/25/11

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list complete with one of our bloggers’ answers. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND post a comment on our post with a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post to share with us and all those who are participating. If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

Top Ten Books I Wish I'd Read as a Kid

Once Upon a Twilight's list (in no particular order):

  1. James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl - I just remember this title from when I was little.
  2. Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss -  I have no idea why I didn't read when I was young, the movie tie-in is wonderful.
  3. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder - Im not sure if I did or didnt read in school when young. I do remember watching the TV show.
  4. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman -  this is another book Im not sure if I read, but of course the movie was great with all the animals.
  5. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren - I knew of Pippi but never actually read the book.
  6. The Polar Express by Chris VanAllsburg - I didnt even know the movie was based off a book. Will be getting so my boys can have in their collection.
  7. Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers - This is one of those I never got around to read especially after the movie was made.
  8. Watership Down by Richard Adams - Ive only heard great things about this book. Andrea Cremer recommends it.
  9. Jumanji by Chris VanAllsburg - Another cute movie that I was not aware was based on a book.
  10. Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik - Who doesnt love Little Bear on TV.
There you have my choices for Children's books I never read.

Funnily enough, it is thanks to this week's Top Ten Tuesday topic that I learned Jumanji--one of my favourite movies--is based on a book! =P Had I known earlier, it probably would have made my own list.

I once read an excerpt from a Little House book when I was younger, and it has stayed with me all these years. It makes me wish I had all the novels in my memory already--but of course, I haven't even started. =P

Well, I did get around to Mary Poppins last year. Unfortunately, I found it a bit of a disappointment. =( It made me put off reading Pippi Longstocking, for fear of the same happening.
