Welcome T.R.!
OUaT: How did the idea for Being come to you?
I was watching a television show about unexplained lights in the sky when a thought occurred to me: What if some of the incidents people report were really wayward extraterrestrial teens attempting to make contact with us.
OUaT: If Being were picked up for a movie, who do you picture playing EBN?
I’d like for Saoirse Ronan to be considered for the role.
OUaT: When you wrote Being, did you expect or plan for readers to come away with the message of Keeping the Earth clean?
Yes, I certainly hope they will. The manuscript was near completion when the Gulf Oil Spill Crisis hit. That disaster sickened me (and still does), so I had to weave that thread through the story.
OUaT: Who was your easiest character to write in the series and who was the hardest?
Oooh. EBN’s (Ee-ben) was the easiest. Aix (Ace) started out as the easiest but became the hardest.
OUaT: Did you design the cover to Being?
My husband and I designed it together, although he deserves most of the credit. However, the background image is a photograph I shot a few years ago on vacation.
OUaT: If you could jump inside any book and live in that world, which book would you choose?
I would LOVE to be a Twilight vamp for real!!!!
OUaT: What do you find appealing about the genre you write for?
It suits my narrative voice, plus there’s such a wide variety of stories told within the genre. Furthermore, I’m inspired by harder-edge YA books that contain warnings for kids, like those written by Ellen Hopkins.
OUaT: If you could choose one superpower like EBN has in your book, what super power would you choose?
I would choose the ability to heal with touch. Our world would be a better place if I could do that J
OUaT: Do you believe we are not alone in this universe?
I did (and continue to do) a ton of research on the subject and I find it hard to accept that we are alone, although until I meet an extraterrestrial, I remain cautiously skeptical. Some of the world’s top scientists say it’s mathematically impossible that humans are alone for two reasons: the sheer size of our ever-expanding universe (I almost typed multi-verse, lol) and the fact that successful biology tends to repeat itself. Since those scientists are WAY smarter than me, I tend to believe them.
OUaT: Do you have a favorite movie about Aliens?
E.T. hands down. I still cry every time I watch it.

Absolutely awesome interview...love it! I am always fascinated with where ideas come from, and this proves that they literally pop into our heads any time, any place!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and the great interview! I'd pick Saoirse Ronan for a movie, too. I love her acting and I'm overjoyed that she's going to be in The Host! The only research I've done on the possibility of extraterrestrial life was reading half of Asimov's now outdated book on it, but I found it very interesting and I agree with the scientists who think it's impossible that we're alone.

Thanks for the interview. And I have to say I stick with the scientists too - we just can´t be all alone in the Universe :)

Being able to heal with touch is an incredible answer. I don't think many people would reply that way when asked "If you had any power, what would it be?" Just from that, my impression that the author is pretty selfless. *respect*
ReplyDeleteSeems like a lovely book. It's always great to read something that inspires you to take care of Earth, our home.
