Summary: (from goodreads) In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.
Be ready to read this book without stopping, or at least reading till 4am. The plot grabs you and doesn't release you until the last word is read. Veronica put so much creativeness with every word, sentence and paragraph in this world she build. The intensity literally makes you jump while you read. What emotions will you encounter in this novel: Surprise, Sadness, Joy, Fear, Anticipation, Love and Hope. The ending which was not a ending more of a beginning was Phenomenal, you don't anticipate it at all. Its one of those ending that you close the book and go "Oh My God, I need the next book now." I really can;t stress how much I loved this book more, I even went and bought a extra copy so I could giveaway with this review. I must share the love for this new favorite. You can count on Divergent being featured at the end of the year for Best I've Read 2011.
The story is about Beatrice that lives in Chicago when the society is divided into factions. You have Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. Beatrice was born into Abnegation because that is what her parents are. At sixteen though Beatrice and others her age have to select what faction they want to be as adults. Beatrice is not sure if she will go with what she knows or what she feels, then comes the day of choosing and her own brothers picks a different faction. You can say that helped her decided to chose Dauntless instead of Abnegation. When you choose a different faction then the one you were born into, you are considered a traitor. What follow now is the initiation that Beatrice must pass with flying colors or she will become faction-less which is your equivalent to homeless. Beatrice which now becomes Tris begins her new journey into the dauntless society she wants to call home. Will Tris survive initiation and will she survived something completely new to her which is FOUR. Read or Listen this book Today if you haven't yet. I don't think I lead anyone in the wrong direction yet with books that I swear by. Veronica Roth will be going down in my list of Favorite Authors of all time.
