Summary: (from goodreads) Fifteen-year-old Bridget Liu just wants to be left alone: by her mom, by the cute son of a local police sergeant, and by the eerie voices she can suddenly and inexplicably hear. Unfortunately for Bridget, it turns out the voices are demons – and Bridget has the rare ability to banish them back to whatever hell they came from.

Terrified to tell people about her new power, Bridget confides in a local priest who enlists her help in increasingly dangerous cases of demonic possession. But just as she is starting to come to terms with her new power, Bridget receives a startling message from one of the demons. Now Bridget must unlock the secret to the demons' plan before someone close to her winds up dead – or worse, the human vessel of a demon king.

I must begin with the book cover. This is one of my favorite covers for this year's releases. Since the 1st time I saw it, I knew I had to read this book. The mastermind behind it deserves a big award  for their detailing and creativeness. This cover will make people when they see it on a shelf pick it up and probably buy it. I know I would.

Possess, where to begin. Possess has so many great qualities. Gretchen's writing is so incredibly intricate. She weaves such a tale of Good vs. Evil. All the chapters brings such a intense culmination then when you reach the end you are blown away with it. When you can picture each action sequence in a book so vividly, its makes the book genius.

Possess is the story of 15 year old Bridget Liu. Bridget already stand out because of her look. She is half Asian and half Irish. Bridget is pretty much tired and bored of everyone in her life trying to control her. Her father was murdered and since then she has been able to hear voices in her head. Those voices have turned out to be Demons. Bridget turns to a local priest to help her and he recruits Bridget and teaches her how to banish those Demons.  The problem is that the Demons begins to tell her certain phrases that she begins to question why they are saying them. The rules of banishment though say Demon will lie, but Bridget feels she needs to decipher the cryptic messages. Will Bridget trust her intuition or will she believe in what she has been trained by the priest? Bridget will have to count on help from the one guy she wanted nothing to do with. He is the son of the  local police man that's being hanging around her mom to much lately. What's a 15 year old to do. Oh did I mention creepy dolls, Yes you might not want to read this book at night.

Gretchen McNeils executed her debut novel with a bang. I recommend anyone of all ages to order this book or pick it up the day it releases. You will not be disappointed in this urban fantasy paranormal tale.

  1. I was really excited about Possess until "creepy dolls," but it sounds so awesome, I may just have to make sure and read it in broad daylight.
