Author Bio: Mary Ting resides in Southern California with her husband and two children. She enjoys oil painting and making jewelry. Writing Crossroads was a way to grieve the death of her beloved grandmother. It was inspired by a dream she once had as a young girl.

OUaT: Hi Mary, Welcome to OUaT. How did you come up with the concept of Crossroads as the name to give the place between earth and Heaven? Did you have any other variations?

I had a difficult time coming up with a name. One day, I was driving on the freeway and I saw an exit street, Crossroads. Then I thought, what a perfect name. What a perfect sign…hehe!!!

OUaT: How long was the process of writing Crossroads from start to finish? Did you have more than one draft?

I started writing as a way for me to heal the loss of my grandmother. The story was very personal. Though my family and friends knew I was writing a story, I wouldn’t let anyone read it. After I got my first draft done after about 4 months later, I asked a very close friend to read it. Then I asked another friend who helped me organize the story. I had no idea what I was doing, I was just having fun. Little did I know that I needed to reread, rewrite, and reedit …lol!!! I even deleted the last 5 chapters and rewrote it again …yikes!!! But I’m glad I did.

OUaT: When your not writing what do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy oil painting. I even painted the cover of New Moon and sold it at a Twilight convention for $100. I forgot to take a picture of it. I also like to make jewelries, shopping, watching movies, reading, and shopping. And of course spend time with my family J

OUaT: Is this certain music that helped you write Crossroads, did you have a play list?

Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars
Just A Dream by Nelly
With You by Chris Brown
Angel by Sarah McLachlan
Down by Lil Wayne
Hero by Enrique Iglesias
Sometimes When We Touch by Dan Hill
Open Arms by Journey
Heaven by Warrant
Secrets by OneRepublic
The Way I Loved You by Selena Gomez

OUaT: Describe Crossroads in 5 words?

Love & friendship know no boundaries

OUaT: What can we expect in the future from you and your writing?

I am currently working on a sequel to Crossroads. Also, I have another story, but that will have to wait.

OUaT: What is your favorite book of all time that everyone should read?

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I cried so much!!! I can’t imagine writing this book knowing you will never see your family again. As my kids grow up, I would urge them to read this book.

OUaT: Give us 3 fun facts about you, be creative.

When I was 16, I went to Japan with my drill team to compete the International competition.
I am one of the creator and designer of www.inspiredbytwilight.com
I am one of the five founding members of an Asian sorority in Irvine, Kappa Zeta Phi.
