Summary: (from goodreads) Something extraordinary is lurking in the deep ocean waters off the coast of Aptos, California. Just a few weeks after moving to the beach town, sixteen year-old Marina has nearly drowned twice, enchanted the hottest guy in high school, and discovered a supernatural creature. If she can manage to survive her increasingly dangerous encounters with unpredictable mermaids, she might just be able to unlock the mystery of her past and learn how to appease the mysterious forces that seem to want something from her... and maybe even find true love along the way.

Marina has lived her whole life travelling with her father, but her senior year he decides to send her to experience school and interact with people her age. She is loathe to the idea of spending it somewhere other than with her father and her amazing "Aunt Evie", but when she gets to Aptos she reconnects with her cousin Cruz and her Aunt Abby. She really connects with the beach but ends up having some freak accidents which then leads her to meet Ethan who is a very gorgeous goal-oriented guy.

I loved the book, and Derrolyn has a way of painting a beautiful picture and draws you in right away with mystery involving Marinas mother and mermaids. Cruz and his best friend Megan make spectacular secondary characters in the book as does a few others that you meet along the way. Ethan also makes for an amazing guy and is very protective and the relationship Marina and Ethan have blossoms right before your eyes and its wonderful.

By the end of the book I couldn't put it down so I could see how she resolved the mystery. I will definitely be reading the second book. :)

  1. This sound pretty different and mysterious. I was emailed by the author but I couldn't fit it into my schedule atm. Great review!
