Booking Through Thursday: 10/6/11 - Oddest book read?

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly event hosted HERE. A Weekly meme about (mostly) books and reading.

What’s the oddest book you've ever read? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it make you think?

Monica's Answer:
The oddest book I've ever read was maybe Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. We read it for book club and it was a choice by one of the other girls in the club, she knows Audrey from The Time Traveler's Wife. So I went into reading the book thinking of course I'll love this. Wrong.. lol. It was weird and at times slightly disturbing with the way she just puts everything together. Its about this aunt who dies and has her twin nieces move into her apt and then one ends up being able to see her. Its .. very odd, I'm not all together sure if I liked it or not. If I did like it at all it was before the end of the book, it killed it. She ended the book in such a way that made the other things that happened seem meaningless. Ahh I'm not sure if I liked it or not still. Definitely made me think though.

Yara's Answer:
I will have to say for it was when I picked up The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. This was before the movie came out. Honestly I think I can say I hated this book. The book was hard for me to read and get into and understand. The way the author kept jumping forward and back, and just how she was murdered didn't help me at all in liking this book. It was just disturbing, no other explanation really needed.

  1. I've heard mixed reviews for both books. Honestly neither one has ever appealed to me so far.
I'm trying to think of a weird book I've read. I'm sure I have one but nothing is coming to me right now.

  2. Her Fearful Symmetry is definitely one of the oddest books I've read. I agree that the ending completely ruined any chance of redemption the book may have had.

  3. I've read the Lovely Bones and found it really disturbing too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that as everyone I know seemed to love it.

My BTT is here if you'd like a look :)

  6. The Lovely Bones! I hated it too. It was way too sad, and just never got better. I wish I hadn't even finished it.

  8. I haven't read the first book, but I have read The Lovely Bones and honestly, I liked it.
It had mystery, where the reader was able to think about certain situations. However, it was sometimes confusing as to when it was the 'present' or a flashback. But I'm glad I read the book since it's very different from the movie.
