Kissing — It’s A Dangerous Sport…

The first kiss. Who doesn’t love it? Whether it’s a new couple’s first, or
someone’s first first, it’s always one to remember—and not always in a
good way.

Dez and Kale’s first kiss is kind of awesome in my opinion. It doesn’t
have a romantic setting or moody music. It’s not built up from sunshine
and flowers and sweet words. He asks her to do it. In a purely
experimental and clinically interested fashion. Now it starts out that
way, but as you can imagine, it ends in warm fuzzies and tingles. Sadly,
it doesn’t always happen like that.

I’m going to do something really brave. I’m going to tell you about my
first kiss—a cautionary tale of split lips and broken bones. Yes. You read
that correctly. Broken bones.

I was thirteen and my friend’s Mom had just dropped a group of us off at
the local haunted hayride event for Halloween. There were six of us
total—including Jeremy—my uber crush. I was lucky though. Jeremy liked me
too. So there we were, perched on the very back of the haunted hayride.
None of our other friends were interested, so we went alone.

This is the perfect moment, I’m thinking to myself. It’s going to be
everything I’ve ever dreamed of. Rocket ships and fireworks and rainbows
and puppies.

Um, not so much.

Jeremy leans in for the kill at the exact moment my nose gets an itch.
We’re not talking a little twinge, but a holy crap I’m gonna sneeze, itch.
I did what any normal person would do, I backed away. But I was sitting
right on the edge of the stupid wagon and when I jerked away, I lost my
balance. Jeremy, being the sweet guy he was, reached out, grabbed my arm,
and pulled me back—just as the wagon hit a pot hole or something. I shot
forward—into his face—and split my lip wide open on his tooth.

Thinking Lucy and Ethel type comedy? Wait. It only gets worse.

Stunned and thoroughly freaked, I jerked back again, only this time Jeremy
didn’t grab me. I toppled over the side of the wagon, feet over head, and
down a small hill. Laugh. It’s okay. If I was watching this happen to
someone else—after being sure they were okay—I’d probably fall off my
chair in hysterics. I’m evil like that.

I ended up with a broken thumb and two cracked ribs. Oh. And Jeremy never
spoke to me again. I must’ve made one hell of an impression, huh?

So fess up. I can’t be the only one out there with a disaster first kiss
story. Step up and share!

Symmary: (from goodreads) When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there's something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she'll turn to dust if he touches her.

It's not until Dez's father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there's more to this boy, and her father's "law firm," than she realized. Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation -- an organization devoted to collecting "special" kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons -- his entire life.

And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills.

The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they're caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.
