Summary: (from goodreads) When Grace Andreas's sister, Petra, and her husband are both killed, Grace inherits the Power and responsibilities of the Oracle of Louisville, as well as her sister's two young children--neither of which she is prepared for. Then Khalil, Demonkind and Djinn Prince of House Marid, decides to make himself a part of the household both as guardian and counterpoint to Grace's impudence towards the Elder Races.
The unknown threats to her and her family bring some unexpected and unwanted help from a Djinn. Khalil is a very powerful prince from the Demonkind with a sad story of his own. After paying one of his favors and learning about her, he makes it his mission to protect her and the kids. The realization of how powerful and strong she need to become is a constant struggle. Making it worse, the revelation that she now owns the Power completely gives her no option but to change the attitude towards her mission in life. Even struggling with all her issues, she accomplishes her job without being portrait as a kick ass heroine, making it easy to connect to her character.
The romantic relationship between them grows sweet and strong after being tested several times during the story. His love for the kids and unconditional support for her overshadows all the tests and obstacles they have to go thru and even some of his adaptation to human life. Hopefully this will not be the last we hear from this two in the series. Although, I read this book out of sequence, it was easy to follow and enjoy but undeniably having read the previous books, would have help in understanding some of the other characters in the story. My enjoyment of the story has spiked the interest in reading the series from the beginning and impatiently await for the next book in the series.
