First, I want to talk about the amazing cover. Isn't it beautiful? That blue dress is absolutely stunning! I have to admit that as soon as I saw the book cover, I was eager to read it. The Selection was a fun read and I truly enjoyed reading it. It was a little cheesy, but what girl doesn’t dream of marrying a prince one day?

The Selection reminded me a lot of The Hunger games and the reality TV show, The Bachelor. There are eight castes and America, the main character, is a 5. The Higher the number, the poorer you are. It’s a little unfair because your number is based on your ancestors and its determined way before you are even born. America and her family are artists and perform in order to make a living. Then one day America receives the invitation of a life time. 35 young girls picked to compete for the heart of the young prince, Maxon and the spot of future princess all while cameras follow them around and broadcast to the entire nation. The only problem is that America has already fallen in love. America's love for her family and her only chance to make a better life for them drives her to go. While there, all the girls get pampered, which is something American isn't used to. She even gets 3 maids who dress her, bathe her and even make her clothes. I wasn’t too crazy about the bathing part – but I guess that’s part of being a member of the royal family. A little creepy if you ask me. LOL Then the rebels attack. We don’t know much about them other then there are two different groups, the Northerners and the Southerners. But I guess we will have to find out on the second book. There wasn’t a cliffhanger, but you can tell that this might become a series.

Overall, it’s a pretty good read. I did find myself not being able to put it down. I will be sure to pick up the second book when it comes out. So, if you are in the mood for a fun, girly and witty read, make sure to pick up The Selection by Kiera Cass.
