Summary: (from Brilliance Audio) When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. Eleven years later, Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. She’s not the person she’s always believed herself to be, and her whole life begins to unravel — all because of Finn Holmes.
Finn is a mysterious guy who always seems to be watching her. Every encounter leaves her deeply shaken...though it has more to do with her fierce attraction to him than she’d ever admit. But it isn’t long before he reveals the truth: Wendy is a changeling who was switched at birth — and he’s come to take her home.
Now Wendy’s about to journey to a magical world she never knew existed, one that’s both beautiful and frightening. And where she must leave her old life behind to discover who she’s meant to become....
Audio: Thérèse Plummer is a new reader for me, and I was quite impressed. She does a pretty great job at changing up her voices for different characters. There were only a handful of times that I thought they did sound a bit the same but it hardly never happen. The main character voice was the best by far, Thérèse nailed Wendy voice throughout the story. You can definitely tell when emotions are high or low when listening. You feel part of the book as you listen. I would recommend this reader and audio book.
Book: This series you can read all about it everywhere in the blogosphere. So I was excited to finally see what it was about. I also loved the new covers that the whole series got. The original covers didn't do the books any justice. At changing the covers, I'm sure it got more attention right away. Its a very pretty cover with the girl sitting in the flowers and having the red sky behind her, like if its on fire.
Wendy is believed she was your typical girl that had your typical family until her mother at 6 years old tried to kill her. Her mother stuck a knife in her stomach at her birthday party, why? Because she would say that Wendy was not her child. Well guess what, that psycho mother had a point. It turns out Wendy is Changeling, meaning she was placed in the womb of the person and the real baby was removed and sent to live where Wendy originates from. Wendy is a Troll or a prettier way to say it is Trylle. Well fast forward eleven years and Wendy finally gets told who and what she is and needs to leave her old life to finally begin living the one she is meant for. All this is told to her by the swoon-worthy Finn of course, who Wendy couldn't stand at first because how he was always staring at her. Finn is ready to take her to her home and meet her real mother, The Queen of the Trylle. You can imagine the shock and lost feeling Wendy has. Everything is now thrown into fast forward and Wendy is right in the driver seat. She must learn to understand who she really is and must forget who she was and everyone she knew in the past. She has to do this very fast and keep the Queen (her mother) happy. She isn't doing a real good job with that. What will happen to Wendy and the Trylle, who are at a point of extinction. Will Wendy save then and sacrifice herself or will she go with her gut feelings???
Wendy is such a great character, she is so strong of mind and very determined. She is not one to just agree to do something because one says so, she must see the reason behind it and agree. Amanda did a great job building Wendy and the rest of the characters. The story is something new and different, and very well thought out. Switched is a great start to a series and will answer a few questions but still leaving you hanging for the next edition in the series.
