Summary: (from goodreads) Since her release from Liberty Children's Facility, Anya Balanchine is determined to follow the straight and narrow. Unfortunately, her criminal record is making it hard for her to do that. No high school wants her with a gun possession charge on her rap sheet. Plus, all the people in her life have moved on: Natty has skipped two grades at Holy Trinity, Scarlet and Gable seem closer than ever, and even Win is in a new relationship. But when old friends return demanding that certain debts be paid, Anya is thrown right back into the criminal world that she had been determined to escape. It’s a journey that will take her across the ocean and straight into the heart of the birthplace of chocolate where her resolve--and her heart--will be tested as never before.

Thoughts on audio portion: I was super excited to once again to listen to the continuation of Birthright series. I have had a ARC paper copy in my possession for sometime, but I knew I wanted to listen to the story not read it. Ilyana does such a great job with this series, I loved listening to the 1st book All These Things I've Done and knew I would only want to continue the next on audio also. The way Ilyana does portrays all the charters is excellent. She really captures all their emotions with the correct pitches in their voices. This audio is the complete package, great story, reader and recording. If you have never listen to an audio, I would list this series as a great starter one to try and if you are an audio book veteran, you will find that I am right and agree this is a great audio book.

Now my thought on the story itself: Because It Is My Blood is a great follow up to All These Things Ive Done. There is no sequel syndrome in this book. Once again we follow poor Anya, she has been released from Liberty after sacrificing herself. Anya hopes to be able to enroll back into school and finish it, but its not an easy thing too do when you are labeled. The friends she had all have moved on and forgotten or don't want to be around her. All the people Anya has left are her sister Natty, Imogen and her lawyers. Her once boyfriend even moved on. Anya will discover she will not be able to just fall back into the way things were and a certain turn of event has her making a real big life decision, hoping this will protect her and those close to her. Will Anya survive this new change? Will it pay off in the long run? I don't want to give away all that happen, because its so much. You will not be given a free second in this story. You will journey with Anya in her new set course. What will happen to Balanchine Chocolates and will anyone else die?

Its such a fascinating concept still how Zevin took something simple as chocolate and created such a crazy-mafioso world with it. If this were ever to really happen, it would be complete chaos. A zombie apocalypse would seems like kids play over chocolate being becoming illegal. Fans of the series, you will be pleased and look forward to the next installment. I highly recommend listening to but reading is definitely OK too.

  1. I just listened to Burn for Burn and I loved it. They had three narrators so I think I enjoyed the audio more than I would have enjoyed the print book.
