Summary: (from goodreads) Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city filled with them.
He's days away from becoming a full Guardian, and people around the world are already competing for the chance to be watched over by him. Everyone's obsessed with the Angels and the lucky people they protect - everyone except for Madison Montgomery.
Maddy's the one girl in Angel City who doesn't breathlessly follow the Angels on TV and gossip blogs. When she meets Jackson, she doesn't recognize him. But Jackson is instantly captivated by her, and against all odds the two fall in love.
Maddy is swiftly caught up in Jackson's scene, a world of glamour, paparazzi - and murder. A serial killer is on the loose, leaving dead Angels' wings for the police to find on the Walk of Fame. Even the Guardians are powerless to protect themselves in the face of this threat & and this time it's up to Maddy to save Jackson.
Immortal City was a delightful surprise to read. I, for some reason had not heard about the book until I saw and met Author Scott Speer at the Austin Teen Book Festival. I had heard of Scott before but as the movie director for Step Up Revolution. So when I came down from the clouds and realized he wrote this book, I bought it on the spot and while my friend drove us back to Houston (3 hour car ride) began reading Immortal City in the car and out loud. It was a instant hit, the witty banter and the idea that something supernatural meets modern day Hollywood, sold me in seconds. Picture watching a show of The Hills but with Angels involved, with a tad of TMZ thrown into that mix. Want to know what really stood out for me, all the names of the Angels. Scott did a really badass job naming the angels and their families. Who wouldn't love a character named Jackson Godspeed and its sounds HOT.
If you are worried about reading this book because a celebrity wrote it, don't hold back anymore. You will see that Immortal City is worth reading. Another great thing about Immortal City, its not like any Angel series out there. You won't find any comparison to Hush, Hush or Fallen. Immortal City is its own entity. This debut novel will hook, line and sink any fan of YA, Angel lore or pretty much anyone. Scott Speer took Guardian Angels and put a Hollywood twist to the way the system works. Basically if you want a guardian Angel, all you have to do is be able to afford his service and that Angel is appointed to you. These Guardian Angels are not just any simple Angel either, they have been trained and sculpted to be the best at saving your life (for the right price of course). Saving lives is not cheap, and why do Angels need all that kind of money? Well that's where you have to read Immortal City to understand the "Why".
So Immortal City follows Jackson Godspeed, he is about to fulfill his dream of becoming a full-fledged Guardian Angel, but not jut any Guardian Angel. Jackson will be the top of the top. His celebrity status is above and beyond any other Angel, so when Angels start turning up dead and their wings chopped off. Jackson and other began to worry, especially since they seem to be following a pattern and Jackson is next. Cue in Maddy, she is a simple waitress, that doesn't care for the Angels and their popular over priced scandalous lives. Every time she sees the Angel City sign (not the Hollywood sign) she cringes. So what happens when Jackson comes into Maddy's dinner where she helps her uncle run the dinner. Well Maddy doesn't know who he is, and Jackson is immediately enamored with her. So in a matter of a few blinks, Maddy's life will be flipped upside down when she hits head-on the world of the Angels and everything it entails. How will Maddy and Jackson deal, will she run back to her boring life away from the paparazzi and will Jackson survive long enough to become a full-fledged Guardian Angel?
Wait until you get into the meat of this book, the secrets that start to unfold in the pages will leaving you holding your breath. I read this book in less than 24 hours, its that fantastic. The book is just one big ole bucket of excitement, go out and get it. The sequel Natural Born Angel is set to be released April 2013. So plenty of time to catch up before the sequel comes out. If I didn't sell the book with my review, then maybe the book trailer will seal the deal and get you ordering it asap! Enjoy!!!
