Summary: (from goodreads) 200 years ago, the Brothers Grimm unleashed their stories upon the world. Literally. Now the characters of the Grimms’ stories walk among us. With every day that passes, they grow more evil. They are the Corrupted, and only a hero can stop them.

For 18-year-old Alice Goodenough, that means taking precious time off from her summer vacation. In addition to volunteering at the local library, Alice must stop the Corrupted who are now actively hunting her down. With the help of her magic pen and her trusty rabbit friend, the world has suddenly gotten a lot more complex. The Corrupted are everywhere, and only Alice can see them for what they truly are.

This book contains the first 3 episodes of the critically acclaimed series: Episode 1: Prince Charming Must Die!
Episode 2: Happily Never After
Episode 3: Revenge of the Castle Cats

When I first started The Grimm Chronicles I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It was a fast read and interesting but it takes all the stories of Cinderella, Snow White, and Alice in Wonderland and changed them to something really creepy. After reading the book the author had comments in the back of the book that said they wanted to tell these stories like they really were and not the fantasy romance ones.

The story takes place with a 18 year old girl named Alice and she will be starting her Senior year in High school. She has the typical teenager life that all highschoolers die to have. They have a gorgeous boyfriend, best friends, and a job that she loves so much. One day when she started at the library she had to go to the basement to put a book away. When she got down there she went to place the book on the shelf and saw a note that was written for her to kill the snake. So she thinks nothing of it and walks away and notices a pen laying on the ground so she picks it up and all of a sudden a snake comes out of nowhere. Then she looks again and there is a rabbit there that wants to help her. So she stabs the snake and it dies away in ashes. Then it tells her to make a door and a door knob in the wall and when she does a door appears and she is able to open it. She can't believe her eyes. So she leaves and goes home. When she comes into her room she sees the rabbit again. He tells her things that will change her life forever. She finds out she is a hero that needs to kill all the corrupted characters that are walking all over out in the world. The rabbit tells her that there was two authors that wrote a book about fairy tales and then they burned the book and the characters started to come alive and take over the world and kill people. After Alice hears all of that she starts looking at the world with her eyes open this time and sees people for who they are. Even if it means her boyfriend might be a corrupted.

In the end it was a really interesting story but knowing the real stories of Cinderella and Snow White. It was disturbing to read the real stories behind them. If you like things like this you will love this book. I love the romantic novels better..

  1. Oh, thanks for this! I actually do prefer the real, disturbing versions. I read the Grimm's fairy tales in middle school and loved them. I found them far more interesting than Disney or romance versions.

Another add to my to-read list.
