Book Review: The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise

The Boyfriend App
App #1
Author: Katie Sise
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 30th 2013
Review Source: Balzer + Bray
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) In The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise, super-smart, somewhat geeky Audrey McCarthy can’t wait to get out of high school. Her father’s death and the transformation of her one-time BFF, Blake Dawkins, into her worst nightmare have her longing for the new start college will bring.

But college takes money. So Audrey decides she has to win the competition for the best app designed by a high schooler—and the $200,000 that comes with it. She develops something she calls the Boyfriend App, and suddenly she’s the talk of the school and getting kissed by the hottest boys around. But can the Boyfriend App bring Audrey true love?

I really loved this book from the beginning to the very end. The book was so true based on today's life with smart phones, computers and Apps. I would have loved to have an app like that for my cell phone when I was in school. It would have helped me find a boyfriend for once and not meet a loser like I always did. Maybe I would have been matched with my high school crush.

Audrey the main character of the story is a super smart geeky girl who just recently had her father pass away and her mother is working at the school as a lunch lady. Well Audrey is having a hard time with being picked on because of her mother working at the school and about her father dying. She use to be best friends with a girl named Blake but they stopped being friends after Audrey's dad died because he use to work for Blake's father and Audrey's father died while he was working for her dad. Well her dad said it was all Audrey's dads fault and that is why he died. So that is why they aren't friends. Well there is this contest in school that if you design a app for your phone and it becomes a hit then you can win a scholarship to be able to go college because she doesn't have the money to go. Well she designs this app for your phone and has guys and girls sign up for it by answering questions and after answering the questions if you are 100 feet from your crush the phone will go off and then you will know that is your crush.

The funny thing is that some of the guys are getting hooked up with girls that they would never want to be with. Athletes are getting hooked up with Gothic chicks. Well Audrey wanted to sign up for the app but she was hoping she would get hooked up with her all time crush. But after things started happening at school and she realized who her real friends were. Her guy friend Aidan she started to have a crush on and didn't even realize she even would. She just thought of him as a friend. Well through the whole app designing process she finds out about a certain program that was put into the smart phones that all the kids are carrying around the school. Well it helps with peoples hormones and gets guys and girls going if you point your phone at theirs. Well when Audrey figured it out she pointed it at Xander at school one day and they started making out right in the cafeteria. People couldn't believe that was happening. Throughout the whole book Audrey goes on this roller coaster of a life and every turn she makes it either has a problem or things turn out the way she wants them. When I was reading it I thought it was my life that I was living again. I loved it.

If you would like to feel like you are in high school again then I would read this book. It has all the drama in it that you see in High school. It was cool reading about it because it put my hectic life on hold for a little while and let me live like a high schooler again. I wish I was that age again where I didn't have any responsibilities and could do whatever I wanted.

Book Review: Rush by Maya Banks

Rush
Breathless #1
Author: Maya Banks
Reading Level: Adult
Genre: Erotica/Romance
Released: February 5th 2013
Review Source: Berkley
Available: Amazon

Advisory: Intended for 18+ - Contains heavy sexual content & mature situations.

Summary: (from goodreads) Gabe, Jace, and Ash: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Gabe, it’s making one particular fantasy come true with a woman who was forbidden fruit. Now she’s ripe for the picking...

When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. Their relationship is intense and obsessive, but as they cross the line from secret sexual odyssey to something deeper, their affair runs the risk of being exposed—and vulnerable to a betrayal far more intimate than either expected.

This is the first book in the Breathless trilogy by Maya Bank. When I first picked up Rush all I knew was that it was going to be hot and hot it was. I have heard of Maya Bank's before, but this was the first book I have read by her and definitely will not be my last. When I started reading the first few chapters, it reminded me A LOT of Fifty Shades of Grey because of the whole contract thing, but it was completely different afterwards.

The trilogy is about three best friends (Gabe, Jace and Ash) who so happen to be rich, hot and hotel moguls. Rush is the story of Gabe Hamilton and Mia. Jace's little sister, Mia, has had a crush on Gabe ever since she was a little girl. I mean who wouldn't crush over their brother's hot best friend! Mia and Jace's parents both died in a car accident when she was just a kid. Jace has always taken care of Mia and helps her any way he can and is very protective over her. Mia has recently graduated from college and is working at a coffee shop until she figures out what she should do with her life. Then one night, at one of her brother's hotel's grand opening, Mia decides to go and surprise him. Little did she know that that night would change her whole life. At the hotel, Gabe sees Mia and decides he has waited long enough to approach her. He convinces her to go to his office the next day and there he makes a proposition she cannot refuse.

I absolutely loved everything about Rush, except for one scene between Mia and Gabe while they were in Paris. I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to give too much away, but I felt like he was selfish and crossed the line. Other than that, Rush was amazing and a great read. I just couldn't put it down! Fever, the second book in the series comes out next month and I was lucky enough to get an ARC. I can’t wait to read it! Review coming soon!!!!

Book Trailer Blast: The Flame in the Mist by Kit Grindstaff

There's evil-a coming from up on the hill
If the Mist doesn't get you, the Agromonds will.
   —From an old Anglavian rhyme

EXCERPT:

Thunder roared, and lightning speared down. In its brief flashes, Jemma could see more shadows gathering. They looked like pale Mordsprites, small, bedraggled, skeletal. She lengthened her stride, but the ground was slick and she slipped, slamming face down in black mud. Hauling herself to her feet yet again, she came face to face with one of the shadows.

It was not a Mordsprite at all, but the gray silhouette of a child, a sunken-cheeked, hollow-eyed boy of no more than five, his ragged arms reaching out to her through the Mist.

Jemma stood petrified, her heart pounding as he swayed closer, oblivious to the chaos raining down around him. Others closed in behind him, a straggling band of waifs, all moving in the same direction.

Toward her.

PRAISE:

"Fast, creepy fun. A bit of The Addams Family, a bit of dark fantasy, and a boatload of monsters and magic make this read a ghoulish delight." - Stefan Bachmann, author of The Peculiar

About The Flame in the Mist:

The sun never shines in the land of Anglavia. Its people live within a sinister mist created by their rulers, the cruel Agromond family. The Agromonds' control is absolute; no one dares defy them. But things are about to change, for the youngest of them is not like the others...

Fiery-headed Jemma has always felt like the family misfit, and is increasingly disturbed by the dark goings-on at Agromond Castle. The night before her thirteenth birthday, Jemma discovers the terrifying reason why: She is not who she thinks she is, and the Agromonds have a dreadful ritual planned for her birthday—a ritual that could kill her.

But saving her skin is just the first of Jemma's ordeals. Ghosts and outcasts, a pair of crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient Prophecy—all these gradually reveal the truth about her past, and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than any she could imagine.

With her trusted friend, Digby, and her two telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, Jemma faces enemies both human and supernatural. But in the end, she and her untapped powers might be the only hope for a kingdom in peril.

Movie Review: The Host

When I read ‘The Host’ back in 2008, at the time, books weren’t being optioned for adaptations like they are now. So after finishing that 619 page book, you were left hoping for a sequel to continue with this new prose Stephenie Meyer gave us that was worlds apart from ‘The Twilight Saga’. Then in 2009, word came that ‘The Host’ film rights had been acquired. Of course being a long time book reviewer and having many opportunities to talk to authors, you learn that just because film rights have been acquired, doesn’t mean you will actually see it hit the big screen. For a couple of years this felt like the case with ‘The Host’. Right after it was optioned, it became somewhat of a stalemate. Then in 2011 noise began to form around ‘The Host’ movie again. I can tell you being a long time fan of Stephenie Meyer, all her fans were on board and not planning on missing out on possibly the next big thing following ‘The Twilight Saga’. Meyer fans knew ‘The Twilight Saga’ was coming to its end, so having something else to focus on after ‘The Twilight Saga’ ended was welcomed with open arms. We began to see major spikes in sales of ‘The Host’ after the news that a movie was going to happen.

When everyone heard that Saoirse Ronan was cast as Melanie/Wanderer, they knew all the issues had been figured out. Andrew Niccol was back as director and everything was full steam ahead. Then a month later the release date for ‘The Host’ was announced, the world would finally see Stephenie Meyer’s science-fiction romance novel on the big screen on March 29th, 2013. It would be the world’s time to see if this novel that remained on the New York Times Best Seller list as #1 for 26 weeks, would mimic the book’s success on film.

As a reader and fan of ‘The Host’ novel, today I can say that the answer is Yes! ‘The Host’ movie adaption surpassed my expectations. I was able to see a pre-screening of The Host a couple of weeks ago and have had time to sit and ponder every detail and scene in the movie. In my personal opinion, Open Road Films, Stephenie Meyer, Andrew Niccol and everyone involved in creating this adaption was on point. It might have been the advantage of having the author of the novel on hand as a producer on the film or it might be the actors they cast to portray the characters in this best seller. Who ever it was, they did right by the book. It stayed as true to the novel as they could keep it so that it still worked for the big screen. Remember we are talking about a 619 page novel, you can’t expect every single detail to be acted out. When scripting the adaptation the writer is tasked with including as much detail from the book as they can while still creating something that will capture a movie going audience. While you can’t please everyone, I feel that fans of the novel will truly be pleased with the final movie product, I know I was. For those that have never read the book but still want to see the film, I believe you will find it just as entertaining. Heck, I’m sure a few will purchase the book after watching the film.

‘The Host’, for those of you not familiar with the novel, is based on Melanie Stryder. Melanie (Saoirse Ronan) is a 17 year old girl, that is left to care for herself and her younger brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury). They have been on the run and in hiding for a long time. See, our planet Earth was invaded by “Souls”, they are an alien race that in our minds resemble a type of parasite. They don’t have bodies like humans do, so they take over by entering our bodies behind our necks and replace the human inside us. The Souls basically become us and as human we lose who we are. It’s as if that human life never existed, and now the Soul inside was reborn with a new human body ready to make its own memories. Melanie is one of very few humans left that have stayed hidden and not succumbed to the invasion. These humans have to live a life of hiding and always carefully planing their next movie. One night while Melanie is scrounging around a property for food and supplies, she runs into Jared (Max Irons). Neither can believe they have run into another human. Jared tells Melanie he has been alone for a long time and hasn’t seen a human being like them in a long time. This begins a new life for them both and soon they fall in love. They have managed to live together hidden out in an abandoned trailer in some fields. Then one day after seeing how close the Seekers got to where they had being staying, they went out looking for new shelter . Seekers are what you can call the law enforcement of the Souls. Their sole purpose is to keep everything running smoothly and seeking out the remaining human resistance When Seekers arrive at the location where Melanie and Jamie are, Melanie knows what she must do. She needs to protect her brother Jamie at all cost. She hides him and tells him to stay put no matter what. She then takes off in the opposite direction to attract the attention of the Seekers. Melanie knows she can not allow herself to be captured so she makes the choice to end her life in order to protect the knowledge of the remaining resistance and most importantly the ones she loves that is held in her mind, the mind that will be open to an implanted soul if she is captured. Instead of allowing her capture, she leaps out of a window many floors up and falls to what she believes will be her death. It turns out however that Melanie has a strong will to live because she did not die from the fall. The Seekers take her to their healers, the healers are able to repair all the damage caused by the fall. Then they place a Soul inside her. What Melanie always fought and sacrificed her life to prevent is exactly what happens.

The Soul that has been implanted inside of Melanie goes by the name of Wanderer (Saoirse Ronan). Wanderer has awakened in Melanie’s body and starts immediately to go to work. Her job is to help the Seekers find out where the remaining resistance are hiding out. Through her invasion of Melanie’s memories, the existence of Jared and Jamie and their relation to Melanie is revealed to the Seeker organization. Wanderer sits everyday trying to relay Melanie’s memories of Jared and Jamie to the main Seeker (Diane Kruger). Then out of the blue, Wanderer hits a wall when Melanie speaks to her. Melanie still exists inside her body, she did not die even after Wanderer took over. Wanderer tries to fight her mentally but its no use. Melanie is strong in both body and mind. Wanderer begins to listen, understand and even share Melanie’s feelings. So it explains the day Wanderer escapes and finds herself in the dessert needing to find Jared, Jamie and the rest. Melanie takes Wanderer out to search for them. Wanderer walked and walked for miles not realizing the human body needs water and rest, especially under the hot dessert dun. She passes out and eventually is found by Uncle Jeb (William Hurt), Aunt Maggie (Frances Fisher) and Ian (Jake Abel). They argue among themselves that she should be killed but Uncle Jeb refuses and they end up taking Wanderer to their hide out in the mountains. When Wanderer finally comes to, a new battle begins to see if she survives living with the humans or will Melanie be able to show enough of her humanity through Wanderer to keep her alive. Then to add to all that, Jared wants Melanie back and as strange as it seem, Ian starts falling for Wanderer. How will one body with two souls be able to divide itself? Is the threat of that Seeker over? Will she give up on her hunt for Wanderer? The different lives and journey that will be affected are either going to surpass or fail. The Host will keep you on your toes and holding your breath at these intense scenes and will make your heart skip a beat at the love stories that develop. You will enjoy this film from the beginning all the way to the last scene.

I recommend this film for all ages. Great date night movie to watch with your loved ones. If you are just going out with the girls, its a great flick to catch as your friends are sure to be swooning alongside you. Guys, brace yourself for all the chrome you will be awarded with when you see the Lotuses the Seekers drive. This movie is a win win. It has all the right thrills, chills and intensity to be liked by everyone.

Walking Disaster
Beautiful #2
Author: Jamie McGuire
Reading Level: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 2nd 2013
Review Source: Atria
Available: Amazon • Barnes & NobleIndieBound

Summary: (from goodreads) Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster. Can you love someone too much?Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

It's such a great thing when an author takes her novel that we adored and flips its around so that she shares with us the same story but from the mind of the male P.O.V's we fell hard for. To be able to get inside Travis' mind and see what Abby did to him, was EPIC. If you thought you loved Beautiful Disaster, then Walking Disaster will blow you away. Some might say, "its the same story, why read it again?" My responses is why the heck not. It might be the same storyline, but its not even close to being the same story. This time you are in Travis' mind from start to finish. I can only imagine it can't be easy to re-tell the story again but from someone else thoughts, well Jamie didn't show any weak spots. She mastered this version and I thank her for giving it to us to read.

In Walking Disaster you expect to read all the exact same scenes that transpired in Beautiful Disaster. So imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to read and realize that a couple of memorable scenes were there but there were other new scenes that we never would have known about unless Jamie re-told in Travis' POV. Its the scenes that Abby is not around that we get to experience for the first time reading Walking Disaster. Jamie gave us so much content to learn about Travis. You learn who Travis was when he was younger, how it changed him and what Abby became to him regarding his youth. Then we get Travis current day and his struggles. We truly come to understand him 100%.

Walking Disaster brings back the sauciness that left us panting for more in Beautiful Disaster. Of course this time, Your reading it from Travis' mind and hot doesn't even begin to explain it. Its more like molten lava when you are done with each scene. You need a nice cold glass of water besides you when you read this book. This book is FIRE!!!

Listen if you read Beautiful Disaster you know reading Walking Disaster is a MUST. I thank Jamie for letting us understand the complex person Travis is and was, and seeing how his Pigeon changed his whole universe. That happens once in a lifetime and it was beautiful to share it with Travis and Abby.

One last note, Jamie does not end Walking Disaster where Beautiful Disaster ended, she takes it further and you will be thrilled. THANK YOU Jamie for giving us your fans that future!!!

The Hybrid Chronicles Book One

Summary(from goodreads) I should not exist. But I do.

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . .

For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet . . . for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

Book Review: Luminaire by Ciye Cho

Luminaire
Florence Waverley #2
Author: Ciye Cho
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Fantasy/Mermaids
Released: November 28th 2012
Review Source: Author
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) Being the only human in a world of merfolk... isn't easy. Florence Waverley chose to stay in Niemela, but things have gone awry. Secrets have risen and the prince she cares about has pulled away. All the while, dark dreams warn her of a tragedy that only she can stop. But in order to save the merman she loves, Florence will have to enter the Life Path tournament: a brutal test of fear and madness.

The tournament is a rite of passage--a maze where young mermaids and mermen battle to find their purpose. It is also a place where Florence will face grave danger: mermaids with evil magic, tunnels filled with sea fire, and guardians who wish to use her as a pawn in their secret plans. But will Florence be strong enough to survive the tournament... or will she perish inside it?

Everything hangs in the balance: her life, her world, and her love.

I really enjoyed the first installment because I had never read a book based on an underwater world before but I loved Luminaire because it was such a strong sequel. Luminaire follows the main character, Florence Waverly as she continues to live her life in the underwater world of Niemela. She's been getting more acquainted with Rolan who is the newly appointed King of Niemela. But as the story begins, Rolan has started pulling away from Florence. He is going back on everything he has ever told Florence since her arrival in Niemela and is trying to get her to let him take her back to the surface so she can return the the human world.

Florence of course wants nothing to do with the human world any longer. She wants to remain in Niemela and build on the life she has started to create for herself. She wants to stay with her friend, Princess Yolee and try to find her niche within their world. In an effort to try to find her place within Niemela, Florence agrees to join the Life Path Tournament with Yolee so she won't have to go alone. King Rolan of course is furious and lashes out at Florence trying to drive home the point that he doesn't want her in Niemela any longer but the reality is he is scared for her. The Life Path Tournament involves a maze and it is incredibly challenging and dangerous. Unfortunately Rolan has no say over whether Florence can join the tournament or not, the Guardians have control over it and the King can not intervene.

The suspense of what will happen as the novices make it through their trials and into the Life Path Tournament is very well written. I would find myself biting my nails as I read through the danger that awaited them inside the maze. I loved the interactions that Florence has with several of the novices participating in the Life Path Tournament. I hope to see more of these characters in the next installment. There is a hint at the end as to the return of a character long thought to be dead, so I am pretty excited to see where the author goes with that unexpected plot twist. Overall this was a very well written second installment and I enjoyed it very much. Can't wait to see what Ciye Cho comes up with next!

Blog Tour: Moonset by Scott Tracey + Being a Witch

Welcome to our stop on Scott Tracey's MOONSET. Moonset is the first book in his new series called The Legacy of Moonset. This tour is hosted by Rockstar Book Tours and can be followed HERE. Today's stop is all about being a Witch on Moonset.

About the Author:

Scott Tracey is a YA author who lived on a Greyhound for a month, wrote his illustrated autobiography at the age of six, and barely survived Catholic school (and definitely not for the reasons you might think).

He is the author of WITCH EYES, chosen as one of Amazon’s Best LGBT Books of 2011, as well as an ALA Popular Paperback in the Forbidden Romance category. The final book in the WITCH EYES trilogy, PHANTOM EYES, will be released in the fall of 2013.

He is also the author of MOONSET, a new series which will be released April 8, 2013, as well as a contributor to the SHADOWHUNTERS & DOWNWORLDERS anthology, edited by Cassandra Clare.

His career highlights include: accidentally tripping a panic alarm which led to nearly being shot by the police; attacked in a drive-thru window by a woman wielding a baked potato, and once moving cross country for a job only to quit on the second day.

His gifts can be used for good or evil, but rather than picking a side, he strives for BOTH (in alternating capacity) for his own amusement.

Being a witch in Moonset

Being a witch in the Moonset world has the potential to be awesome, but it also comes with so many rules and regulations you might not like what you end up doing.

In the world of Moonset, magic is a language that only witches can hear and speak. But it's also about the way the words are spoken, the intent behind them. Magic is not just a "listen and repeat" kind of language, it contains many dimensions. No one ever really lives long enough to master ALL the spells out there. They just learn as much as they can.

Most kids aren't taught anything but the very basics until they're older. Childhood is all about rules and stories - grinding it into kids heads that magic cannot be exposed, and it should also not be abused. Witches have their own versions of fairy tales, the only difference is that all the stories that witches tell are based in actual fact. So they tell stories about Orpheus going to the Underworld to reclaim his bride, but what he ends up bringing back was the first wraith. Or they'll tell stories about the Pied Piper of Hamelin, but in their version he makes the children into serial murderers. Eventually witch kids grow up to find out that those monsters actually are real, and it's their responsibility to stop them.

By the time most children hit middle school, the magic lessons begin. Some kids start earlier than others, but the general rule is about seventh or eighth grade. Witches are taught in classrooms just like other kids, but they aren't graded on a flat scale. Teachers look for aptitudes - types of magic that the kids master easier than others. Everyone learns the same kinds of basics, but as kids gravitate towards one or more kinds of magic (like illusions, or spells that control others, or spells that affect inanimate objects) they get separated and tested more carefully on their skills.

As soon as they get some grounding under their belts, their lives are completely flipped around. Because there are so few witches (the war with Moonset caused lots of casualties), changes were made and now students are shipped across country to schools that are suited to their aptitudes. So kids good at combat magic end up going to D.C. while kids who are great at illusion spells head down south to Atlanta. As abilities are honed, students can be moved two or three times before graduating high school.

Magic itself is also heavily regulated. One of Moonset's goals had been destroying collections where magic and history were stored. They targeted private libraries filled with old spellbooks, as well as the existing magical government. In the aftermath, teaching the next generation of witches became crucially important. Now, the witch Congress oversees what kinds of magic are taught to students, and what kinds are forbidden. There are classes of spells that one must pass a test to learn, much like earning a driver's license. And whole branches of magic that will only be taught after a process much like applying to college. The stronger the spells, the more hoops to jump through.

And then comes the big divide. There are two kinds of witches in the Moonset world: those who practice magic by themselves, and those who are bound into a Coven. No one can control which

of these they fall into - some believe it's genetic, others believe there's a higher power calling the shots. But every so often, high school aged kids find themselves wrapped into a Coven of five to seven people - a bond that will connect them for the rest of their lives.

Covens get preferential treatment. They're the upper class, wealthy elite. They have access to stronger magic, they can do things that solitary witches can't, and they tend to be more durable when push comes to shove. They're also the vocal majority of the supernatural government that oversees the magical world. Being in a Coven is an instant pass into a better life.

That isn't to say being a solitary witch is such a terrible thing. Only solitary witches are eligible to join the Witchers - magic's alternative to the Navy Seals. When a wraith escapes back into the living world, it's the Witchers who get called in to clean up the mess. One Witcher on his or her own is easily the equal of an entire Coven, and have access to entire libraries of magic that are heavily restricted to anyone else.

Solitary witches also have the freedom to go wherever they want. Covens tend to be drafted towards a singular purpose - the government keeps a tight leash on them to make sure that Moonset doesn't ever repeat itself.

All in all, being a witch in the world of Moonset has just as many benefits as they do drawbacks. But being able to make your high school rival think she's being haunted without ever lifting a finger is still kind of awesome, whatever the costs.

But when dark magic wreaks havoc in their new hometown, Justin and his siblings are immediately suspected. Justin sets out to discover if someone is trying to frame the Moonset orphans . . . or if Bridger has finally come out of hiding to reclaim the legacy of Moonset. Book Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder
Lunar Chronicles #1
Author: Marissa Meyer
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Fantasy/Dystopian/Steam Punk
Released: January 3rd 2012
Review Source: Purchased
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

First off, let me say Cinder immensely surprised me. I would not have thought that I would like a Science fiction book with robots and cyborgs, but I loved it. In fact, it’s better than the original Cinderella, which is retold in this stunning novel. Marissa Meyer has made an incredible world that you can feel like your living in through her words. I was staying up late and waking up early to read this riveting book. Cinder is a novel I could never forget.

The characters of Cinder were all oh-so-similar to Cinderella’s yet no where near the same. Cinder is a cyborg. Originally a human, Cinder was in a car accident that left her parents dead and herself wounded. Some of her limbs had to be converted into metal and wires, and on top of that, she was an orphan. Cinder never really wondered about her past; she’s never been able to remember anything. Adopted by Garan Linh, she moved into a home with a loathing step-mother and two step-sisters, one friendly, one bitter. Garan soon dies from a spreading, incurable plague, leaving Cinder to Step-mother Adri. Her life quickly changes as she is forced to work in the town as a mechanic- the best one there is. So clever at her job, Prince Kai, the emperor of New Beijing’s son, meets her by asking her to fix his own robot. With a heart-racing, gripping plot, Cinderella is reborn in an epic tale of world domination, sacrifice, forbidden love, and hidden secrets.

Cinder is a must read for anybody. I am truly sorry for you if you haven’t read this book because you are missing out. Cinder was a thrilling novel and thankfully there’s more in the Lunar Chronicles. Thank the almighty Lord I found this book!
