Summary: (from goodreads) Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.
Ok, Molly McAdams is quoted on Apollyon's cover saying "Holy Daimon Babies" and I have to agree with that 100%. WOW OH WOW is the reaction, I got as soon as I finished Apollyon. This pulsating 4th novel in the Covenant series, just does not let up on the throttle at any given point. I have a suspicion that Jennifer might have been well stocked up on caffeine drinks when she wrote Apollyon. The adrenaline just oozes out of each page, you can't turn the page any quicker to catch up with the novel.
Apollyon continues a tiny bit after Deity but right after the novella Elixir. So you might want to read Elixir before Apollyon comes out. Alex is gone. When I say gone, I mean her mind due to the connection is just not hers anymore. She is all sorts of Apollyon-whacked out. My heart breaks into tiny little pieces every time she opens her mouth to scream at Aiden. Aiden is a God in my book, just alone for what he did when he stood there and took it all from Alex. Talk about a psycho Apollyon, Seth of course keeps adding fuel to the fire. The connection Alex and Seth have is as intense as it can get. The inner-dialogue they carry between each other, just makes you want to jump in the book and pull Alex by the hair and drag her down a asphalt road. Well that's the reaction you'll get if you are on Team Aiden, like I am. Sorry Team Seth, the boy got mad issues!!!
This is where I have to hold my review somewhat, because it would spoil so much of the story. So you know that Aiden wants and is trying to brake the connection between Alex and Seth. If he can accomplish that, they need to figure out a "How" in stopping the God Apocalypse happening all around them. They don't want anymore Pures or Half's killed. If Alex can break the connection, she will carry the biggest burden on her shoulder ever, it even worse then losing Caleb or her mom. The Underworld will be visited by who or why, is something you will have to find out when you get the book. Its not an easy task to make it to the Underworld and back, I'll tell you that much. New truths and new discoveries will make themselves known and wait until you know what they are. Oh and another thing without giving away more story: bom chicka wah wah!!! Ill leave you with that, yes I know, I'm horrible teasing you all like that.
The wait for Sentinel will be murder. Glad there are quite a few books before than to take my mind off the Sentinel Jeopardy clock. I can't even begin to think what Jennifer will bring to the table in Sentinel.
