Summary: (from goodreads) I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.
Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.
It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.
After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?
All great thing must come to an end. The question is will it end how you expect or hope. Amy Plum did a fantastic job with the end of her series. If I Should Die is all kinds of great. Amy balanced the story very well when it came to death and love. I knew that not everyone could survive and live happy ever after, that would make the story boring. This book will keep you on your toes and your heart pounding from the get go. You jump right in where Until I Die left us with our hearts broken and saying "NO, that didn't just happen".
Before we get into the story, I just want to talk about how much I love this book as well as the other two before it in the series. Amy took supernatural beings such as Zombies, that we associate as grotesque or creepy and remade them into something appealing and swoon worthy. Then Amy pick one of the most romantic cities in the world and brought it to life within these pages. The way Amy describes or paints Paris, really creates a picturesque setting. Then you have the moments where French is spoken, you can never go wrong with the language of love.
The time for the battle against good and evil has arrived and at the forefront are Kate and Vincent. Kate is devastated and has the Numa looking for her, she isn't safe anymore. Vincent is gone or is he not? Being captured by the Numa, is no walk in the park. There is a scene in the beginning that will squeeze the life out of your heart. You can't imagine continuing to read the book from that moment on. Well don't stop, I promise it will get better, not easier but better. Kate will have to put on her big girl pants and take charge. The Revenants will all come together in this epic battle that is doomed to bring casualties on both sides.
An Epic revelation will occur that I personally did not see coming. So be prepared to be left with your jaw left hanging. Amy really put all her cards on the table when it came to this thrilling conclusion in the series. I am left in a good place but sad to have to say good bye to these characters I have a special place in my heart for.
If I Should Die is the third and last book in the series and my personal opinion is you should read the first 2 books before reading If I Should Die, so you can truly grasps everything that happens in the series. You will fall in love with the Revenants just like I did.
