Welcome to our stop during the Stealing Harper blog tour for the (awesomesauce) Molly McAdams. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to be a part of this tour. Molly McAdams is one of my all-time favorites authors to read. So I am tickled pink that I have the pleasure of sharing today a exclusive excerpt from Stealing Harper and a special guest post Molly herself wrote for this stop. Plus wait till you see the fantastic giveaway.
Just to let you know how amazing Stealing Harper was for me. Stealing Harper was the 1st book ever to actually produce real tears while I read the book. Not one single book prior ever caused that reaction. I'm a very visual person, so I have to see it to feel it but Stealing Harper I felt deep in my soul. Thank you Molly!
You can check out the post this week prior to mines over at USA Today, Fresh Fiction and Bookalicious. Then sharing today with us is Reading Between the Wines.
::Needin’ a good cry!::
“Molly McAdams made me ugly cry!”
Uhh, yes! Yes, I did. And I can assure you I was doing the ugly cry too! It was so not pretty, I was crying so hard I was having trouble breathing. Kleenex weren’t helping, I had to resort to my shirt, and my poor, 90-lb dog had to deal with me gripping her neck and sobbing into her.
She was a good sport, she sat there like a champ.
I cried for two hours straight during the “scene that shall not be named”, and continued to cry off and on for the next two weeks as I pushed through with writing. But not once throughout that time did I think I should change what was being written. One, because that’s where the story had taken me, and two, because I was writing about something real. The things that happen in my stories may be hard to get through, but they’re things that happen in life every day. And I’m a firm believer in happy-ever-afters, but not without going through trials first.
It’s never my intention to make my readers cry, I just write whatever the characters give me. But I’m also not going to shy away from a subject just because of the emotions attached to it. I think a good cry is something we all need every now and then, and some of my favorite books are my favorite because of the feelings they evoked in me.
A few books that choked me up, or made me full on sob:
- A Bend in the Road – Nicholas Sparks (anything by him)
- Pulled – A.L. Jackson (anything by her)
- Crow's Row – Julie Hockley
- Hopeless – Colleen Hoover
- What I Didn't Say – Keary Taylor
EXCLUSIVE ONCE UPON A TWILIGHT EXCERPT:
I’d almost forgotten why I’d been coming to the kitchen in the first place, but an annoying feeling like being watched finally broke through and my eyes shot up to find wide gray eyes locked on mine again. Drew was talking to her, but she was focused on me. Her eyes looked like they were about to bulge out of her head, and her mouth was slightly open. She looked disgusted. I licked the redhead’s chest and winked at this timid-looking girl before taking the fourth shot.I am going to tear you apart, little girl.
I wiped my mouth and bent low to the redhead’s ear, “Thank you, beautiful.” I let my teeth graze her ear and smirked when she shivered.
Straightening quickly, I looked ahead only to find the timid girl gone, and Drew looking in the direction of one of the halls. I immediately took off in that direction and ran into Bree.
“Hey, bro! Awesome first party!”
I hugged her tight and kept looking for that girl. Why did she have to be so damn short? I was never going to find her in this now.
“Who’re you looking for?” Bree asked, and when I looked down at her saw she was looking around too, but in the opposite direction.
“A girl, who are you looking for?”
“My roommate, she ran off.”
“Ah shit, Bree, I forgot to ask. How is your roommate?”
Stealing Harper Blurb: Chase Grayson has never been interested in having a relationship that lasts longer than it takes for him and his date to get dressed again. But then he stumbles into a gray-eyed girl whose innocence pours off her, and everything changes. From the minute Harper opens her mouth to let him know just how much he disgusts her, he's hooked.
But a princess deserves a Prince Charming who can make her dreams come true. Not a guy who can turn her life into a nightmare.
All good intentions go out the window when Harper starts to fall for the guy Chase has come to view as a brother. He wanted to protect her by keeping her away, but he can’t stand to see her with anyone else, and he’ll do anything to make her his. But when it comes down to Harper choosing between the two, will Chase have the strength to step back from the girl who has become his whole world if it means she’ll be happy?
Lines will be crossed. Friendships will be put to the test. And hearts will be shattered.
