Reading Level: New Adult
Genre: Horror/Apocalyptic
Released: October 1st 2013
Publisher: Atria Books
When the world ends, can love survive?
For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone makes fighting for tomorrow an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.
When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.
Set against the backdrop of a brilliantly realized apocalyptic world, love somehow finds a way to survive. But what happens when the one you’d die for becomes the one who could destroy you?
Red Hill grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until its stunning conclusion. This is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jamie McGuire at her unforgettable best.
WOW! So many feels and emotions while reading this book. That is what makes a book fantastic or causes extreme book hangovers. When an author can grab the readers attention in such a powerful gripping way, that's talent if you ask me. This book is not for the faint at heart, this is not your typical chick lit romantic novel that John meets Jane and they fall in love and live happily ever after. Not even close, this book has no comparisons. For those of us fans of Jamie McGuire and her Beautiful Disaster series know that this is far from that story and genre period. But even though it's horror and not your happy ever after, I recommend it to all of Jamie's fans. You will not, I repeat will not be disappointed in the story. It is tough on the heart but the writing is just brilliant. If you ever though "I want to read a horror/apocalyptic novel" then this would be the one to break that cherry with.
Red Hill is told in multiple point of views and that switch back and forth as you read the story. At no time does it get confusing or boring, it's actually pretty awesome to read a character and then read the next and realized they cross path without even knowing one another when it happened yet they are all dealing with the same issues and troubles. The narrative that Jamie created and shared in these pages is pretty great. There are so many emotions you feel such as heartache, fear, hope, surprise, attraction, sympathy and relief. That is what I truly loved about this novel, it wasn't just a one way street, you have many variable to enjoy.
Red Hill will take you on journey of an outbreak and how the world basically falls apart. Are these people that are infected zombies or something else. How and why did this outbreak happen and will earth survived this apocalypse of sorts. If the people you depend on to save you are infected, who else can you wait on to save you. This is survival at it finest and the biggest test any human will have to face in Red Hill.
With Halloween right around the corner, Red Hill is the perfect book to pick up and read now. I suggest reading at night in the dark so that you experience all the feels to the max. Just be eared, when your done reading Red Hill, you will probably have to wait a bit before picking up the next book to read. Red Hill will give the best book hangover ever and anything you read right after will probably not get that attention it needs because you are still thinking of Red Hill.

I need to read this one, not only because I'm a huge BD fan, but because I just love the "end of the world" genre. This is something completely new for Jamie, and I'm looking forward to reading it.
