Amelia Kahaney's The Brokenhearted is a gorgeous, gritty, and imaginative take on the superhero story, perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer's Cinder and Marie Lu's Legend.

Anthem Fleet is the embodiment of the perfect daughter to one of the wealthiest families in Bedlam City. She is at the top of her class, has the perfect discipline from practicing ballet her entire life, and is dating the "it" guy. Routine, routine, routine. It's safe and what Anthem is comfortable with. She HAS to be the perfect daughter, to replace her sister that passed away. That's the only reason she came to be. She's a replacement.

But, one rebellious act will take her down a whirlwind that is both emotionally and physically challenging. Anthem Fleet, perfect daughter, will be no more.

It has been a while since I've enjoyed a YA THIS much. It has so many elements that I love so I'll break them down for you.

• First: Her name is so different than anything I've heard or seen. Anthem. I love it! 
• Second: Girl power all the way! I love me a strong girl. She goes from being a dainty, delicate Prima Ballerina to a total kick-butt, female heroine. I really love how Kahaney slowly eased old Anthem into new Anthem. It was done effortlessly and smooth. 
• Third: The science fiction element was done just right. Sci-fi is a delicate genre but I believe Kahaney incorporated it perfectly. There isn't too much science-y stuff that can sometimes confuse a reader. Although, I am hoping for a little more science in the next installment of The Brokenhearted series. 
• Last: Romance! Romance can often times take over a story and make it the main focus but that is so not done with this book. Yes, there's romance but not too much of it, which I think works perfect for this book. 

Overall I highly enjoyed reading The Brokenhearted and I'm now impatiently awaiting the next installment! Please go pick up a copy because I need someone to talk with about this awesome series!
