How far will a good girl go for the bad boy she loves?
Laney Holt is a preacher’s daughter. A good girl. Her only goal was to get married, have babies, and live happily ever after, just like her parents. Only that didn’t happen. The two people closest to her betrayed her, and Laney’s dreams came crashing down. Now she’s left with an empty space she doesn’t know how to fill. Until she meets Jake Theopolis, a daredevil with a death wish who has heartbreaker written all over him.
Jake has no interest in thinking beyond the here and now. All he wants out of life is the next rush, the next “feel-good” thing to keep his mind off the pain of his past. His latest rush? Showing Laney there’s more to life than being a good girl—and that going bad can be so much fun. Her only concern now is how she can ever hope to satisfy the wild side of a boy like Jake. She’s looking forward to trying. And so is Jake.
Deitre...I can honestly say that the At first Sight for me was the name. The authors name to be more specific. So many books in this genre are slowly taking on the one boy, one girl instant snapshot kind of love look. There areal many titles that have covers with this snapshot, that I feel takes away from the strength of original storylines. For me, this author could publish a book with a solid color, title and just her name and I would buy it.
Heather...When I received the book I was excited to read it because the cover is sexy. It doesn’t show too much skin which I thought was very tasteful. I loved the contrast of black and white with the blue jeans and the orange lettering just made it stand out even more.
Storyline:
Deitre...Laney and Jake finds themselves in an intimate kiss. A kiss that only last a moment. Sometime has passed and unfortunate circumstances bring them back together. Both dealing with challenges of their own, they lean one another for strength and companionship.
Heather...Being a preacher’s daughter Laney Holt is what you would expect; sweet, innocent, and wholesome. She wanted the kind of relationship her parents have. That is until a breakup with her fiancĂ© and Jake Theopolis walks back into her life.
Hero/Heroine:
Deitre...This might be a stretch, but I saw Jake's sister, a minor character, in the story as a silent hero. She was only in the story or Jakes's life when needed. However, those moments were turning points in the story, which made her character so much more valuable to the storyline.
Heather...The hero of the story for me was Jake. He showed Laney how to let go and to be the person she wanted to be instead of the person that was expected of her.
Favorite Supporting Characters:
Deitre...Our two main characters ran the show. I really didn't fall in love with any other characters except the sister mentioned above. Although I did not agree with the way he handed certain situations, he still loved Laney, and the reader could see that.
Heather...This one is hard for me since mine wasn’t around until later on in the story, but Tori is my favorite supporting character. She didn’t give up on her friendship with Laney even when Laney wouldn’t hear what she had to say.
Something We Loved:
Deitre...This was not your simple girl meets boy and falls in love forever. This a story with substance. With Rocky roads along the way. Moments of wow, did that just happen. Nothing was predictable. The novel has all the components of a great love story.
Heather...What I absolutely loved is that Jake is such a bad boy and can never be tied down but as hard as he thinks he is, he can even be a softy. I loved his passion for Laney even though he fought it.
Something We Hated:
Deitre...I disliked Laney's boyfriend greatly.
Heather...What I really hated was Laney’s ex fiancĂ©. He expected Laney to come crawling back to him even though he treated Laney badly.
An Event We Never Saw Coming:
Deitre... This is a story of more than just a stressed relationship between two people finding themselves. It's also packed with a major scene that changes everything!
Heather...What I didn’t see coming was how the book ends. It was a surprise to me, a delightful surprise but I can’t say exactly what that is.
Would we recommend it?
Deitre...Quick read, entertaining from start to finish, who could ask for anything more!
Heather...Oh, yes! I would definitely recommend this book. I brought it with me everywhere in case I had an extra minute to read. I didn’t want to put this book down. M. Leighton is a spectacular author that captured me with every sentence. The flow of the book was amazing. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
