When Ileni lost her magic, she lost everything: her place in society, her purpose in life, and the man she had expected to spend her life with. So when the Elders sent her to be magic tutor to a secret sect of assassins, she went willingly, even though the last two tutors had died under mysterious circumstances.
But beneath the assassins’ caves, Ileni will discover a new place and a new purpose… and a new and dangerous love. She will struggle to keep her lost magic a secret while teaching it to her deadly students, and to find out what happened to the two tutors who preceded her. But what she discovers will change not only her future, but the future of her people, the assassins… and possibly the entire world.
DEATH SWORN is a book of mystery, magic, and danger. I enjoyed the story very much. It held my interest and made me want to hurry through the story to unravel the mysteries. I was not disappointed at the end. As this is titled as BOOK ONE I am anxiously looking for the next installment in the series.
The young sorceress, Ileni, and young assassin, Sorin, are the lead characters and bring diverse characters together into this adventure but, to me, the caves they dwell and in are almost another character, and a big attraction to this book. I have long found cave exploration to be a fascinating subject. One can almost feel the stalactites and stalagmites, the walls closing in on Ileni and Sorin and the others as they make their way, day after day through the dark, narrow passageways of the maze of caves in which they live.
I recommend this book. If you are a fan of fantasy, of adventure, and mystery or in new world with new rules, this could be just what you are looking for.
