Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.
Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.
When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?
I often think that second books in trilogies are meant to be a let down for readers and that is why most of the times I try to stay away from them. It was definitely not the case with Sweet Peril. I loved Sweet Evil, I really enjoyed the concept, the story line and the characters so I had really high expectations for Sweet Peril. This book met all of them and left me wanting more. It left me craving for more Kaidan Rowe, more action and it left me wanting to know how Wendy Higgins is going to end this trilogy.
At the end of Sweet Evil we are left with Anna and Kaidan parting ways, for the best. I was devastated because there were so much that was left unsaid and I wanted for them to remain friends. This book follows Anna’s journey to get all the Nephs together to fight for a bigger purpose. In this installment we see a fierce Anna. We see a completely different Anna, she is not the naive girl anymore that I met in the first book. She has transformed into this determined, kick-ass and really strong person. She was exceptional in this book, except for the fact that she was being mopey and whiny about not being to be able to be with Kaidan, in the first half of the book and I completely understand her, I mean its Kaidan! The guy is amazing.
This book is full of tension, romance and some steamy scenes! There are some twists and turns that I did not see coming and had me on the edge of my seat. The story moves really fast and we learn new details throughout the whole book. I really enjoyed that I got to know more about the secondary characters, Kopano and Blake are my favourites. We don't get to see much of Kaidan in the first half of the book which had me somewhat upset. But him not being present was necessary for the story to move along and in the second half we do get to see some more of him. Those scenes were perfect, he was perfect!
I enjoyed this book a lot. The romance and the action went well together here. We get to see a mix of everything. The book is fast paced which I like in this case because I was not overwhelmed with details and it didn't drag. I wish they would have been more scenes with Kaidan even though we get to see him, I think it was not enough (I know, I am greedy!). If you are looking for a fast read with romance, smexy scenes, a swoony guy and a lovable main character, this is the series for you, I recommend it.
