Nell knows a secret about her perfect, beautiful sister Layla. If she tells, it could blow their world apart.

When Nell and Layla were little, Nell used to call them Nellayla. Because to Nell, there was no difference between where she started and her adored big sister ended. They're a unit; divorce made them rely on each other early on, so when one pulls away, what is the other to do? But now, Nell's a freshman in high school and Layla is changing, secretive. And then Nell discovers why. Layla is involved with one of their teachers. And even though Nell tries to support Layla, to understand that she's happy and in love, Nell struggles with her true feelings: it's wrong, and she must do something about it.

We Are The Goldens is a great story about the relationship between two sisters. The youngest, Nell, just started high school where her older sister, Layla attends. Happy doesn't even cover how Nell feels. Layla is her favorite person and now she gets to spend more time with her. Or, so she thinks, but Layla has a secret that might tear them a part. That hot teacher all the girls adore? The one who's the center of many inappropriate rumors? Well, the teacher and Layla are in a relationship. This time, it's not a rumor. Nell struggles to do whats right. But, she loves her sister and she has to do the right thing. Right?

I found reading We Are The Goldens fairly easy. I finished it within several hours. It didn't do much for me, personally, but I can totally see myself saving this book for my two daughters to read when they are a little bit older. It definitely teaches a good point. When you love someone, you have to do the right thing even if the right thing to do is difficult.

You can clearly see how blind Layla was being. I felt really bad for Nell when she was constantly being let down by her "perfect" sister. She really loved Layla and you could feel it. Overall, what really held me over was the general story and I wanted to know the conclusion. I was very pleased with it! Like I said, this is definitely a story young adults could learn from.

  1. Great review Bianca! Short, but precise. :)
Now I'm looking forward to this book's release date and I can't wait to get myself a copy! I am very curious what happens to Layla's forbidden relationship, and what will Nell do.
