Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?
When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.
For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling
First off...let me say WOW! This story gave me chills and made me want to continue to turn the page to see what would happen next. I loved the suspense, being kept on the edge of my seat, and just the sheer thrill of it all!!
This story changes what each person is thinking by the chapter. That in itself made me love Melissa Marr even more. I love being inside others heads. We learn about Eva, her best friend Grace, Judge and her lifelong best friend Nate.
Eva is a girl whom has grown up, never wanting for anything. Her parents own a vineyard and has grown up in Jessup, NC, in a very prestigious neighborhood. One night, after being stood up by Robert, her boyfriend, Eva was struck and run over by a car. As we later find out, it was intentional, and she was supposed to die. Judge thinks it is his decision whether or not a person lives or dies. Seeing that Eva lived, Judge takes this as a sign that Eva is not one of THEM.... a pretentious rich kid. He feels as though God has told him that it was not her time and she wants to be good.
Meanwhile, as Eva is recovering, Nate steps back into her life and she starts having visions when a person touches her. These visions show her who will die and how. Eva knows that this will be seen as hallucinations due to her head trauma and decides to keep it to herself.
After seeing Grace's death, Eva decides that now is the time to tell Grace about these visions. She plans to bring Nate into it and figure out who this killer is. Will Eva be able to stop more killings? Can she save Grace and Nate? Will her visions continue?
