A Kingdom at War . . .
Elora, the young princess of the Dark Faeries, plans to overthrow her tyrannical mother, the Dark Queen, and bring equality to faeriekind. All she has to do is convince her mother’s loathed enemy, the Bright Queen, to join her cause. But the Bright Queen demands an offering first: a human boy who is a “young leader of men.”
A Dark Princess In Disguise . . .
To steal a mortal, Elora must become a mortal—at least, by all appearances. And infiltrating a high school is surprisingly easy. When Elora meets Taylor, the seventeen-year-old who’s plotting to overthrow a ruthless bully, she thinks she’s found her offering . . . until she starts to fall in love.
Taylor is having a tough time being a teenager, and then has to slowly cope with the fact that faeries might actually exist-and worst of all they might be coming after the love of his life. Lora, the faeries Dark Princess has to team up with the Bright Queen in hopes of overthrowing her mother and how she plans to rule faeriekind.
While I am a lover of fantasy novels this one was not one of the best that I've read. I finished it, so I was obviously interested in the story, but there were sometimes when I was bored or confused as to what was going on. I found it hard to follow Lora's stories to Taylor of the faeries background mainly because she wasn't letting him know that it was really her story, she was treating it like it was a folk tale. This would lose me, and then their conversation would turn from this tale she was telling to a talk about their relationship. Although their talk about their relationship was always in innuendos and never out in the open either.
While I wasn't enthralled by the story I did find the characters fun and loving. I loved Taylor and his willingness to love Lora even though he barely knew her. I found it endearing. I loved Lora and how she was trying to be rid of her mannerisms of being a faerie to being a high school student trying to deal with normal issues, such as bullying. I was surprised by the LGBT story that happened, I am a full supporter of LGBT and I have nothing against anyone. But I wasn't expecting a story about everyone needing equality within a story about faeries. It was nice, and it was nice to see how Lora reacted and dealt with it.
