THE ROSIE PROJECT WAS COMPLETE BUT I WAS UNPREPARED FOR THE ROSIE EFFECT.
GREETINGS. My name is Don Tillman. I am forty-one years old. I have been married to Rosie Jarman, world's most perfect woman, for ten months and ten days.
Marriage added significant complexity to my life. When we relocated to New York City, Rosie brought three maximum-size suitcases. We abandoned the Standardised Meal System and agreed that sex should not be scheduled in advance.
Then Rosie told me we had 'something to celebrate', and I was faced with a challenge even greater than finding a partner.
I have attempted to follow traditional protocols and have sourced advice from all six of my friends, plus a therapist and the internet.
The result has been a web of deceit. I am now in danger of prosecution, deportation and professional disgrace.
And of losing Rosie forever.
When I found out there was going to be a sequel to The Rosie Project, The Rosie Effect, I knew I had to get my hands on it as soon as possible. We’re back with Don Tillman and his new wife Rosie. When an unexpected pregnancy happens it throws Don off a tad (maybe a little more than a “tad”) he risks ruining his marriage.
I absolutely loved The Rosie Project, Don Tillman is hilarious, and was a hilarious ride. Don has a touch of Asperger’s, he’s the Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) of the literary world, but unlike Sheldon, Don wants a wife and to be loved. When he finds out that his wife is pregnant he is having a hard time adjusting to the unexpected news. Since his brain is wired slighty different than the average guy he’s trying to connect with the pregnancy. While doing so he gets himself into trouble (a lot), annoys his wife to no other, and really puts a strain on their relationship.
While I did enjoy this book, I definitely enjoyed The Rosie Project more. I got a little annoyed with Rosie for not being as understanding as she was in the first book, but I’m going to blame it on pregnancy brain. Though my feelings for Rosie started to get a little jaded, I was still in love with Don. I love being in his head and watch him analyze everything, we see what he sees, we know how we would act, but then he acts the complete opposite. Don is really trying to be involved in the pregnancy, but not the way Rosie wants, but the way he thinks is most beneficial.
If you haven’t read The Rosie Project, get out of here and get it! Don Tillman has been one of my most favorite fictional characters ever, completely different from any characters I get the pleasure to meet. Then don’t forget to check out The Rosie Effect, you can never get enough Don Tillman.
