Mirror Mirror on the Wall, who is the fairest one of all? Well definitely not Queen Levana, that’s for sure. With Fairest we get a little glimpse into Levana’s life before the plague struck Earth, before Cinder, before everything came to what it is now.

Man, when I thought Levana was bad, I hadn’t expected her sister to be so wicked either. That was one crazy royal family. Levana’s story didn’t take us too deep into her world, but it did shed some light on how she became so evil. We also got to see the beginnings of some of our favorite characters, and our soon to be character, Winter. When I first started reading this story I was feeling bad for Levana, and then she proved herself to be indeed downright evil. Maybe if her parents cared more, maybe if her sister wasn’t just as crazy, maybe if her love was reciprocated we wouldn’t be in this mess, but what fun would that be.

If you’re reading The Lunar Chronicles and haven’t yet picked this up, I would definitely do so now. One the cover is amazing (along with the whole series) and two you get quick information that feeds into the current story, and our current character’s lives. When I had first heard about Fairest, I was all like “how about no? And we just get to Winter faster (the book, definitely not the season), but then after reading this I’m so glad we got it. That’s the best part of novellas, getting a short sweet story that inevitably sheds some light on our current series/story.
