The Summer of Chasing Mermaids is the epitome of a YA novel, and so much more! Anything and everything you can ask for is laid out in front of you within this beautiful read. Romance? Definitely, and in the form of an almost perfect guy who is TOTALLY swoon worthy and an irresistible girl who although has flaws is perfect on her own. Strong characters? You got it. Solid plot and storyline? 100%!! Does the summary remind you of the Little Mermaid? Because, that is the reason that drew me in. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids is a unique story though, but will leave you wanting to re-read it over and over a million times more.
Though I usually fall in love with the delicious YA boys, Elyse wins me over in this one. I'm not sure if I could find anything wrong with her! I truly feel lucky to have "met" her. Christian, OMG, Christian! He had me hooked immediately. And, finally Sebastian… I die! I want my own Sebastian. He is the sweetest, cutest, and most adorable character I have ever read about.
Sarah Ockler is a diamond! WOW is all I can say. With such powerful words, and an amazing storyline, The Summer of Chasing Mermaids not only entertains you it also makes you think and gives you hope. It is a coming of age story, a love story, a fun story, an educating story, and so on and so on. Don't miss out on this one. With summer vacation just starting this is the PERFECT read to start off your adventures!
