I know many of you will be thrilled about this news: Warner Bros. and Di Novi Films have optioned the movie rights to The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson!
The Hollywood Reports: The move continues the studio’s relationship with Nelson as Warners previously optioned the author’s 2014 hit YA book I’ll Give You the Sun.
Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan will produce. Nelson will exec produce.
Sky, published in 2010, tells of a high school student who is dealing with the sudden loss of her sister. In her grieving state, she finds herself drawn to two men: her sister’s boyfriend, where the shared loss binds them in ways she doesn’t understand, and a new arrival who offers a bright hope for the future.
The novel helped launch Nelson, a former lit agent, and the book was translated into more than a dozen languages. It also was longlisted for the Carnegie Medal and earned praise from fellow YA authors such as Gayle Forman.
Julia Spiro, the exec who is already overseeing Sun, will also shepherd Sky.
Sun, Jandy’s second novel, was published last fall and went on to become a New York Times best-seller and the winner of the 2015 Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, one of the literary world’s most prestigious honors for YA books.
Natalie Krinsky is currently adapting that novel, which Di Novi and Greenspan are also producing. Di Novi, a longtime producer, is in the middle of shooting her directorial debut, Unforgettable, a thriller starring Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson.
Nelson is repped by Paradigm and Holly McGhee of Pippin Properties.
