I'm going to give you 2 reviews - because that's basically what I have. A review from the stand point of a fan of the films and a review from the stand point of someone who dearly loves the books. Now it's expected to be a little disappointed as a fan of the books - but this takes a whole new turn.

But I'll start with the review as a fan of the movies. I did enjoy this movie. It wasn't anything completely amazing but it was enjoyable. They follow the story that they've set up from the previous films and they keep the characters growing. And honestly who doesn't love Four and Caleb and Peter?

In the books you know to hate Peter. But Miles brings a certain quality to Peter that makes you love him! Sure he has motives that then make you hate him, but his one liners and how Miles delivers them are so enjoyable that you can sort of oversee the bad he's doing.

Caleb is another character where the book makes you hate/love/hate/love him. He's Tris' brother, but he betrays her because he puts Faction before Blood. And it breaks your heart when that happens. But can I just say that Ansel is a sweetheart that makes me want to just accept his apology and then save him? Because that's basically what I want to do when I see him.

This may just be because I met him...and got a hug from him...and yes I have picture and video proof...

This is from the Divergent red carpet. I'm that girl he's talking to in the picture. With his hand on my shoulder....

And then Theo James. Seriously. One of the best looking men ever born. And I feel like he was born to play Four. Four is one of my favorite book characters ever and Theo definitely embodies him so well. It makes me love him even more.

Now...as a fan of the book....I was insanely disappointed. The story....I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say I have absolutely no idea where the story is going to go in the final film. I feel like they changed things for the action story that has become the film. Which I understand doing but I feel like they took the essence of Roth's book and completely changed it.

Also seeing the movie with a theater full of people who hadn't read the book was very disappointing too. I had a few people who would just laugh because they weren't enjoying it or they felt that things weren't making sense with the story. And it would've made sense with the story if they had read the book.

I enjoyed the movie though. It had action and romance and honestly that's all I really need in a movie sometimes.

  1. I wasn't overly impressed with the movie but it was entertaining.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with all your observations. Though I don't mind that they've toned down the story a bit in terms of "the outside" world and what the Bureau does. It's like the Maze Runner series, with movies, less is more.

I honestly have no idea what the next movie is going to be like. I feel like they hit all the major parts in this movie--whether or not they stick to the original ending is up in the air for me. I hope they stick to it but I wouldn't be shocked if they changed it.
