In response to recent events, the City of Miami Beach has asked us to update our policies regarding weapons, masks, and props. Our new policies may be found at

In the past week, we have been working closely with the City of Miami Beach and their different emergency response departments to put together a comprehensive plan for improving the overall safety and security of every attendee. Supercon has always had a strong security presence at events, but it’s time to add additional measures. Many of these policies match those already in place by other large conventions, such as New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con.

The updated policy reflects a ZERO TOLERANCE for REAL and/or REALISTIC weapons of any kind. The City of Miami Beach owns the convention center, and they will not allow weapons even if you have a conceal and carry permit. No weapons are allowed, period. Searches will be conducted if any bag or outfit presents as suspicious. Supercon staff will be on hand to help security understand the difference between a quality crafted costume and something out of place. Anyone not consenting to a search at the request of a security officer will be asked to leave without refund.

Supercon and city officials fully understand that none of our fans or attendees are of any threat to anyone. We also appreciate that we have never had an incident in the past when we allowed fake weapons into the building. Unfortunately, at this moment in time, we have to eliminate all possible confusion about props and fake weapons.

We understand there has been some confusion when we say no weapons. We are not referring to “cartoon” weapons (we consider those “props”)… we are talking about REAL and REALISTIC looking weapons. Lightsabers and Phasers are ok. Airsoft guns and Nerf Guns painted black that look like real guns are not.

Everyone entering the building with a mask on will be asked to remove it upon entry. You may put it back on once you pass the prop check point. You will have to do this at both the convention center and the Filmore.

We are working with city officials to increase security onsite at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Filmore Theatre, and the surrounding area. This will see an increase in both private security officers and the addition of more City of Miami Beach Police to the area all weekend long. We have also put other procedures into place in tandem with the City of Miami Beach to provide for the safety and security of Florida Supercon attendees.

Both Florida Supercon and the City of Miami Beach want every attendee to have a good experience in city and at our show. Your safety and security is our top concern.
