"Enchanting and complex. Every page is filled with magic."-Danielle Paige, New York Times best-selling author of Dorothy Must Die

Nothing says Happy Birthday like summoning the spirits of your dead relatives.

Alex is a bruja, the most powerful witch in a generation...and she hates magic. At her Deathday celebration, Alex performs a spell to rid herself of her power. But it backfires. Her whole family vanishes into thin air, leaving her alone with Nova, a brujo boy she can't trust. A boy whose intentions are as dark as the strange marks on his skin.

The only way to get her family back is to travel with Nova to Los Lagos, a land in-between, as dark as Limbo and as strange as Wonderland...

"A brilliant brown-girl-in-Brooklyn update on Alice in Wonderland and Dante's Inferno. Very creepy, very magical, very necessary." -Daniel Jose Older, author of Shadowshaper

"Labyrinth Lost is a magical story of love, family, and finding yourself. Enchanting from start to finish." -Amy Tintera, author of Ruined.

5 YA books I read as an adult that I wish I had as a teen

TINY PRETTY THINGS by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Chariapotra
I loved Mean Girls and ballet. This is basically the diversely cast version of that. It’s amazing to see girls of color in fun contemporary stories.

SHADOWSHAPER by Daniel José Older
A lot of people compare Labyrinth Lost to Shadowshaper because we both have brown girls in Brooklyn. I love that. There was a time in publishing, not too long ago, where that wouldn’t happen. You can have more than one story. We deserve more than one story. Plus, I would’ve killed to see that cover when I was a teen.

THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS by Anna-Marie McLemore
This book is pure poetry. I loved magical realism as a teen, but a lot of it was inaccessible to me because the prose was too heavy after translation from Spanish. This book is perfect.

MORE HAPPY THAN NOT by Adam Silvera
I wish I could’ve given this book to all my gay friends when we were in high school. They never saw themselves. They were never the central character. They were never represented this way before. Plus, we loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind like crazy.

THE STAR-TOUCHED QUEEN by Roshani Chokshi
This book is full of awesome. Awesome characters, language, setting. Fantasies set in non-Western cultures pretty much didn’t exist like this in YA a few years ago.
