From USA Today Bestselling Author, Renée Carlino, comes a totally unique love story that is sure to make you question what’s out there . . . or who.

“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

I'm torn writing this review.  I absolutely love Renee Carlino's writing but Lucian Divine was unlike anything I've read by her.

Lucian was a guardian angel assigned to watch over Evey.  Evey had dated many different types of people but like her best friend, Brooklyn, she didn't usually see anyone more than two times.  She ended up going on a third date because she seemed to have a lot in common with the guy.  During their date, he goes to get a drink from the bartender and talks briefly to a "drunk" man.  Then, all of the sudden he started acting uninterested in Evey.  So she leaves and walks home.  Feeling very confused she goes back to the bar and speaks to the "drunk" man, Lucian, and her life is forever changed.

Starting with what I liked, I loved the cover of this book.  I thought it was really beautiful.  I also loved the idea of it.  Angel story lines are one of my favorite types of books to read about.  This angel story line was especially unique because Lucian was an alcoholic. The angels got paid like a regular job, had electronics, and even dated other angels.

I really liked how this book started out, but at about 10 percent in, the story seemed to completely rush by in a blur of odd situations and dialogues.  Insta-love is an understatement in this book.  I understand the love Lucian would feel for Evey but her immediate leap to do anything to be with Lucian was kind of frustrating for me.

I am rating this book 3.5 stars because I did think it was entertaining and different but I didn't love it.  I was able to read the book very quickly, within about day.
